EIBA UPDATE 29th May 2020

As we are still dealing with the COVID-19 situation, but with the encouraging start of an easing of the National Lockdown, the EIBA would like to update its affiliated Clubs, Counties and indoor bowlers on various matters.

2020-2021 National Winter Competitions

The EIBA, based on the current position are still planning that its National Winter Competitions will commence in the Autumn of 2020. As such we wish to remind all Clubs, County Associations and individuals who still wish to make an entry you can still do so until the amended closing date of Sunday 7th June 2020. An individual entry form is available to be downloaded from our website and this can be emailed to Claire Edson at claireedson@eiba.co.uk Clubs can also email Claire if they need to obtain Club entry forms, due to being unable to access forms which are in the Club.

2019-2020 Re-scheduled National Finals

The EIBA are still hopeful that the postponed National Finals will be able to take place towards end of September to early October 2020. However, due to the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic over the last few months it would have been inappropriate to release details of the plans. Now that there has been a gradual easing of restrictions and a road map for further easing and the possible return of Indoor sporting activities in the 3rd phase, the EIBA would be hopeful that details can start to be published over the next few weeks. We are sure the competitors involved will understand that we are wanting more certainty that the finals can be played safely and that travel and accommodation for competitors are permitted.

Preparing for the return of Indoor Bowls

Whilst all Indoor Clubs continue to be closed, there are indications that if the COVID-19 situation continues to improve as the phases of the lockdown easing are implemented, this position hopefully can change. In advance of this we will be issuing a guidance document to all affiliated clubs to help them start to make plans for how they can prepare to open, complying with the current self-distancing and hygiene directives, when permitted by the Government.

Updated 24th March 2020

The following statement was published on 20th March 2020 regarding all EIBA competitions for both this season and the 2020-2021 events and competitions.

The EIBA Board of Directors met on Wednesday 18th March to discuss plans for the 2020-2021 Indoor Season and the affected 2019 – 2020 season.
It has agreed to the following: -
2020 – 2021 National Competition Entries
The EIBA are planning that the 2020-21 Indoor Season will commence as scheduled. Therefore, we will be accepting entries for Club, County and Individual National Competitions over the next few months, as scheduled.
Due to the entry forms being issued in February and Clubs being temporarily or permanently closed until the new season, we will be accepting entries via the following options: -
a)   Clubs and Counties who have already started to complete the entry forms and can access them can proceed as instructed on the form.
b)    If the Clubs and Counties can’t access the original forms then please email Claire Edson at claireedson@eiba.co.uk
c)   Clubs who have not been able to play their Club Singles final, can still enter the Champion of Champions without the name. We will be allowing as much time in September / October for Finals to be played and names to be supplied before the first round of the event.
d)    Individual members of affiliated clubs, which are now closed, will be able to enter and pay directly with the EIBA, by downloading the forms from the website, and emailing them to Claire Edson at claireedson@eiba.co.uk or post to Head Office.
e)    Before the draws are published the EIBA will liaise with all Clubs to ensure there are no duplications of entry and that the eligibility criteria have been met.
f)     The deadline for entries was Sunday 10th May 2020 but due to the current circumstances, entries will be accepted from now until Sunday 7th June 2020.
2019-2020 National Finals Re-schedule
These competitions, under the assumption that we will be returning to business as usual, will be played later this year.
The period identified is Monday 14th September to Monday 12th October.
The allocation of specific dates for competitions along with the venues is now being undertaken and we will be announcing the schedule late April 2020.
2020 Summer Individual and Fantastic Fives National Competitions
With Clubs being closed the EIBA has taken the decision to cancel this Year's Summer National Competitions.
These Competitions are planned to take place in Summer 2021, so the EIBA would offer all entrants the opportunity to carry this year’s entry over to next. However, if they wish to request a full refund then please email Claire Edson at claireedson@eiba.co.uk to start this process.
In reaching these decisions the EIBA wishes to advise that it will be continuing to monitor the Government’s guidance and or directives in relation to COVID-19 and if necessary, update its Member Clubs, Counties and bowling community.

Statement - UPDATE Coronavirus (COVID-19)

With the Government and Public Health England having advised the Country that we are now in the ‘Suppression’ phase of the COVID-19 plan, the Board of Directors met today to discuss how this would affect its Member Clubs and Counties.
The EIBA are aware that over last couple of days of many Indoor Clubs have already made the decision to close permanently until the start of the new season (September 2020) or to temporarily suspend bowls and review the situation on a regular basis.
However, for those Clubs who have yet to make a decision and are waiting for guidance from the EIBA we wish to strongly advise that you suspend bowling and review on a regular basis or close the club until further notice.
With the age profile and the potential of underlying heath issues of bowlers, putting the majority of them in the ‘at risk’ category, the sport has a duty of care to lessen the chance of them contracting COVID-19.
The EIBA Board have also discussed and will be releasing statements, over the next few days, specifically on the following operational matters: -
• 2020-2021 National Competition entries • 2020 Summer Competitions  • Re-scheduling of the 2019-2020 National Competition Finals • The AGM scheduled for 16th May 2020 • EIBA Head Office
As always, the EIBA will be monitoring the situation and as and when appropriate, advise its Members and Indoor Bowlers of any actions which need to be taken.

Updated 18th March 2020
With the continuing Coronavirus COVID 19 Pandemic, we wish to advise all our members that the remaining Patrons and County Matches have been cancelled.
They are as follows :

Patrons matches at Wealden IBC (26th Match) and Falaise IBC (8th April)
County friendly match v Dorset at Adur (6th April)
The Patrons match v Worthing Pavilion that was due to be played 17th March  was also cancelled.
Coronavirus COVID-19

We have been sent the following update from EIBA.

Statement - UPDATE
Coronavirus (COVID-19)

With the Government announcing yesterday that we were entering the “Delay” phase to address the spread of "COVID-19" in England, the EIBA have held discussions this morning relating to its forthcoming National Finals and
general guidance to its Member Clubs and Counties.

It has been agreed that the following National Final events will be postponed: -

• Monday 16th March to Saturday 28th March at Nottingham IBC
• Sunday 29th March – Egham Trophy at Desborough Northants IBC
• Wednesday 1st April to Thursday 9th April at Nottingham IBC
• Saturday 18th April - Top Club at Riverain IBC

In addition, all Regional EBYDS Finals and the U18’s International Trial are also postponed.

The EIBA will continue to follow the guidance and/or directives of the Government and Public Health England before announcing when the events are proposed to be re-scheduled, but this is unlikely to be before the Autumn of 2020.

In reaching this decision, the EIBA are fully aware that players/officials may have made accommodation arrangements for these finals, but its overriding concern is for the health and welfare of the bowlers, volunteers, administrators and spectators who would be at the events.

The demographics of the sport and the potential unknown underlying health issues of competitors/volunteers were key factors in reaching this decision.

For our Clubs and Counties, the EIBA recommend that they also consider the profile of their members and act appropriately for any planned activities now and in the future.

Currently the guidance from Government is that club sport fixtures can take place but to implement the following actions:-

• Regular washing of hands
• Use of Alcohol based hand sanitiser
• Coughing or sneezing into tissues which are then immediately placed into a bin
• Don’t touch your face unless hands have been washed
• Members who develop symptoms or a cough to self-isolate
• Thoroughly wiping down bowls before and after use
• The shaking of hands pre and post-match to not take place

We will continue to monitor the situation and will act appropriately, if and when the advice from the Government/Public Health England changes.
